Changing Your CS:GO Crosshair

Why Do You Need to Change Your Crosshair?

If you want to improve your shooting, then you need to be more precise. To be more accurate, you’ll need a better crosshair for your weapon.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, a crosshair is a pair of lines that cross at right angles at the focus of your gun.

To alter the crosshair means to become more advanced. Rather than sticking with the default crosshair provided by CSGO, why not upgrade and be more precise?

Changing isn’t tricky at all. You just have to go to the Game Settings in CSGO and shift the crosshair using “cl_” commands such as the ones below:

cl_crosshaircolor “5”

cl_crosshairalpha “190”

After opening the developer console, you just have to copy and paste those set of commands, and voila! You have a new crosshair! Congratulations!

You can even copy the crosshair of Counter Strike Global Offensive pros!

How Do You Customize a Crosshair?

csgo-crosshair-greenCS:GO reticles could either be Classic, Default Static, Classic Static, or Classic Dynamic. All of which could be accessed in the menu of the game. But only a few people know that there are customization options available.

To customize, you’ll have to edit CS:GO’s autoexec.cfg file. This can be found in the directory of the game—Counter-Strike Global Offensive/csgo/cfg. This file is responsible for informing the game of any changes you’d wish the game would adopt on startup.

Just open the file in your notepad and edit away! The only hindrance would be not knowing the right commands.

Here are the things you have to consider when customizing:

  • Begin by switching between the primary crosshair styles to find the right one for you.
  • Play with the gap, color, dot, and thickness. Don’t be afraid to test everything out.
  • Preferring a small crosshair gap distance is ideal. Crosshair gaps pertain to the space between the lines in the horizontal or vertical. Larger gap distances tend to make it difficult for you to spot the exact midpoint of the screen.
  • Large reticles will make your computer screen unclear. If you’re a CSGO player who combats at long range and one-tap using rifles, then a thick crosshair won’t be beneficial for your method.

  • Be mindful of your environment when choosing a color. A reticle that’s light yellow would be difficult to locate against sandy walls. Crosshairs that are blue or violet might also be unnoticeable in dark places. What you’d want is something light but lucid in most environments, if not all.
  • A central dot would work well on a dynamically styled reticle. It will help you obtain a stationary point to zero in on.
